Can I take my pet? What is the policy for carriage of pets?
Some animals travelling from the UK to France need to be part of the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS). For more information on this scheme please contact DEFRA by telephone on 0870 241 1710 (mon-fri 08:30-17:00) or via their website: http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pets/pets/travel/pets/pet-owners/ .
If you are travelling by car then your pet will need to stay in the car for the duration of the crossing. If you are travelling by foot, then your pet will need to be in a lockable pet carrier of sound construction, which is able to withstand being secured on the ship. You must be able to carry this container onboard yourself. Pets are then kept in a secure area on the car deck for the duration of the crossing and are regularly checked by crew members. The latest check-in time for foot passengers is 45 minutes, however it is advised that extra time should be given if a pet is being transported. There is a charge of £15.00 each way per pet.
All our procedures regarding pets travel are governed by DEFRA. Please contact them on 08702 417710, Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 17:00 hours, alternatively, please visit their website at: http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pets/pets/travel/pets/pet-owners/ for any information regarding any necessary paperwork.
NB - Please note the following:
The European Parliament and Council have advised that numbers of dogs, cats and ferrets entering from one EU Member State into another will be limited to 5 as of 26th May 2010.

Why have I been charged £60.00 to amend my booking at the port?
Any amendment made to a booking under our semi-flexible fare structure is subject to a £10.00 (€14.00) amendment fee, and an additional charge equivalent to the difference in price between the sailing originally booked and that of the new sailing.
This supplement is determined in accordance with changes in demand for the sailing specified and principally, the proximity to your sailing date and time that the amendment takes place. In addition to covering the administrative cost involved in providing new documentation to our vessels, the additional fee also reflects the value of the space that you occupy, in terms of recovering part of the higher fare that applies for bookings made on the day of travel.

can I take gas/propane/etc?
Carriage of Gas
Propane or Butane with a weight of up to 47kg (excluding the weight of the gas receptacle) may be carried. The cylinders may only be carried in vehicles where the gas is used solely in connection with its operation or business, i.e. caravans, mobile homes, boats, hot air balloonists (in the basket) and the cylinders can be adequately secured against movement of the ship.
All cylinders must be adequately secured against movement of the ship with the supply shut off at the cylinders during the voyage. Leaking and inadequately secured or connected cylinders will be refused shipment.
Any gas cylinders to be carried must be declared at the time of booking. Partially full or empty cylinders will be treated as if they are full. A maximum of 6 cylinders of medical oxygen for personal use may be carried, provided a letter from the user's doctor is provided stating that they require medical oxygen.
Hot Air Balloons
Hot Air Balloons with up to 47kg of gas are now exempt from IMDG regulations and as such can travel under a tourist ticket. A gas cylinder for Hot Air Balloons generally has a capacity of 45k so in practice they would be allowed to take one cylinder. This must be declared at the time of booking and also at check-in. Partially full or empty cylinders which have not been purged must be treated as full.
Ambulances
A maximum of 6 gas cylinders may be carried of UN 3156 or Oxygen. Cylinders must be size F or smaller
Medical Oxygen
Medical oxygen for personal use may now be carried in any vehicle, provided the patient has a letter from a doctor stating that they require medical oxygen. A maximum of 6 cylinders of size F or smaller (i.e. up to 60 litres aggregate water capacity) containing UN1072 Oxygen compressed may be carried.
Helium is not covered under this M notice and must be declared as Dangerous Goods.
Size 'F' cylinders are 9.4 litres water capacity
The only way a customer can take more is if it is declared on the commercial manifest as dangerous goods. The shipment would then require a dangerous goods note from the supplier of the oxygen. There are also stowage restrictions depending on what other dangerous goods are onboard the sailing, so this option would be best avoided. They are not permitted in any smoking areas onboard the ship.
Gas Cylinders
Tourist Bookings Only - Restrictions apply to gas cylinders which may, for example, be carried for camping or caravanning.
These regulations apply to gases (like Helium, Calor Gas, Propane and Butane) in sealed containers. Any gas cylinders must be adequately secured with any valves firmly closed.
The following vehicle types/combinations can travel and be booked as tourist bookings:
Car + trailer with full gas cylinders
Car + trailer with empty gas cylinders (must be purged and certified)
Van under 6.5m with full gas cylinders
Van under 6.5m with empty gas cylinders (must be purged and certified
Any vehicle under 6.5m being used for commercial purposes must be booked as freight.
Any vehicle carrying more then 3 gas cylinders would be classed as hazardous and would therefore have to be booked as freight.
Compressed Air
Empty SCUBA tanks can be carried as Tourist. However, if they are charged, they are classified as Dangerous Goods and must be declared and shipped under the IMDG Code. They will have to be carried as freight and should be booked via the freight office.
Multi-fuel Vehicles
P&O Ferries carry multi fuel vehicles on all routes and those that run on gas. Drivers should isolate the gas supply when the vehicle is left on the car deck.
Q: Can I take firearms?
Foot passengers are unable to carry firearms. When travelling in a vehicle, on the Dover to Calais route. You will need a 'European Firearms Pass' to take firearms into EU states. It is your responsibility to fulfil any additional or supplemental customs regulations, criteria or law.
When making the booking you will need to provide the serial numbers of all the weapons being carried. When onboard the ship you must report straight to the Ships' Information Desk. A senior member of crew will then take your vehicle keys and secure them for the duration of the crossing.

What is the benefit of being a Unitholder?
For reference, our pricing structure for the general public is entirely demand based and so the cost of any given sailing will start at a low base rate and increase as more bookings are made and the closer it gets to the travel date. Typically, this base rate will be lower than the price available to Unitholders, but is subject to increase according to availability and higher amendment fees, particularly for last minute adjustments.
Unitholder fares remain tariff based, meaning that the benefit to you when booking these is to have access to a fixed rate, regardless of when you buy your ticket. Amendments will also only incur a charge based on any difference between the tariffs chosen, rather than a potentially high charge for a busier crossing. As such, Unitholders have the ability to choose between these ticket types, to take advantage of the best price coupled with the most favourable terms.

How do I log-in as a Unitholder?
To ensure you're logging into the correct section of our website, please do the following:
• Go to www.poferries.com
• On our homepage at the bottom of the screen, click on 'Unitholders'
The screen will now display two fields:
Unitholder number
Pin number
• Fill them in with your details and then click “log-on”
• You'll now be logged in and should see your name at the top right hand side of the page.
When logging on you don't need to add the "C" in front of your reference number. If you're still unable to log on, please forward your Unitholder reference number to customer.services@poferries.com and we'll be happy to investigate for you.
I’m a Unitholder - what is my PIN number to access the Unitholder website?
If you have forgotten your PIN number you can complete this form and we'll get it to you as soon as possible. The Unitholder website can now be accessed by selecting unitholders from the page footer.

Can I sell my Units?
Concessionary units can be transferred to a new owner, who must notify our Registrars (Computershare) of the change in ownership, so the register can be updated. Please note that a new owner isn't eligible for a discount until the year following which their name appears on the register. For example, if they're registered as the new owner in August 2009, they won't be able to make discounted bookings until 2010.
Concessionary units can also be transferred to P&O Ferries if the owner no longer wants them. The owner will receive £120 for their units. Anyone wishing to make such a transfer should contact Computershare who will process the transfer and payment.
Computershare can be contacted at the following address:
P&O Registrars
Computershare Investor Services Plc
P O Box 82, The Pavillions
Bridgwater Road
Bristol
BS99 7NH
