P&O Ferries expands North Sea services

P&O Ferries is to expand its North Sea freight operations with the introduction of the 16,947 tonne Ursine to the Hull – Europoort service.

The 170m long ship has a carrying capacity of 120 articulated lorries and has been chartered to replace the Global Carrier.

The Global Carrier (capacity 110 units) will be used to continue the expansion of the Tilbury – Zeebrugge service which P&O Ferries launched earlier this year.

This in turn releases the Calibur from duty at Tilbury.  The Calibur, with a capacity of 72 units, will move to serve Zeebrugge from Hull alongside the Norcape.

The changes will take effect during mid November, resulting in a total of nine dedicated freighters and four multi-purpose ships sailing for P&O Ferries on its routes to Holland and Belgium.

Ronny Daelman, Freight Director, said: “This latest addition to our fleet allows us to continue our expansion on our long established services to Europoort and Zeebrugge, and at the same time to improve the capacity and the schedule on our new service from Tilbury.”
