We nail our colours to the mast when it comes to buying the best British produce for our ferries

Our award winning Best of British campaign is about cutting out needless ‘food miles’ when supplying the myriad of catering outlets on board our ships.

Our philosophy is that there is no need to import lamb from New Zealand, or beef from Argentina, if we can source sufficient supplies in the UK. 

We also believe in sourcing fresh home produce when it is in season, rather than adding food miles by importing when it is not necessary.

It’s a challenging task for our food and drink buyers and it’s a policy we can only take so far.  But we now keep in sight the ‘farm gate to customer plate’ approach at all times and have developed a broad range of UK suppliers of home produce, from fruit and veg’ to meat, eggs, pies, pasties, crisps, ice cream, beer and cider.

We work with eight trade associations, including the English Beef and Lamb Executive, who verify that the products their members supply are home produce. 

P&O Ferries is the only ferry company to win the title On Board Caterer of the Year at the annual awards of specialist magazine Cost Sector Catering, with judges highlighting the Best of British campaign.
