The Travel Foundation is a UK charity that cares for the places we all love to visit. We're working with The Foundation to take action on sustainable tourism, so we are offering all customers an opportunity to give a small donation to the charity when booking.
Anyone who takes a holiday can make a positive difference when they travel. Sustainable travel isn't about specialist or 'eco' breaks, it’s for every person who takes a holiday... and it can make a huge difference at your favourite destinations.
It can help protect the natural environment, traditions and culture - the things that make holidays special. And it can improve the well-being of destination communities - ensuring that local people benefit from tourism and are happy to give visitors a warm welcome.
All of which can give us an even better holiday experience.
What can holidaymakers do?
Just little things can make a big difference at destinations, for example:
- buying locally made souvenirs or crafts
- eating at local bars and cafes
- going out on excursions that use local guides and drivers
- getting around on public transport, bicycles or even walking when possible
- taking quick showers instead of baths
- asking not to have towels and sheets replaced on a daily basis
- not buying products made from endangered plants or wild animals (including hardwoods, corals, shells, starfish, ivory, fur, feathers, skins, horn, teeth, eggs, reptiles and turtles)
