Amsterdam has been tipped as a great holiday destination for families by travel journalist Jay Cooke.
She writes in the Salt Lake Tribune that the Dutch capital provides something for all the family, with its buzzing squares, vibrant art scene and "ample chances for hands-on fun".
"It's a good value destination for Europe these days, too. With the euro trouncing the dollar, the beauty of Amsterdam is how little you have to spend," added Ms Cooke.
Families were also advised to take their bikes with them on the holiday and make use of Amsterdam's extensive cycling network.
Those planning to get round the city in this environmentally-friendly way can take their bikes abroad by reaching Amsterdam in a ferry.
Currently, over 600,000 cyclists take to the city's 300 miles of bike routes every day.
The Lonely Planet travel guide describes Amsterdam as "one of the world's best hangouts".
It says that the Dutch city is a place where BMWs "give way to bicycles" and "triple-strength monk-made beer is drunk in gleaming, minimalist cafes".
