A cultured city with enough museums and churches to quench the thirst of the most dedicated tourist!

Rouen, with its many spires and church towers, is an important historic city. It has around 200 half-timbered houses, with rough-hewn beams, posts and diagonals leaning this way and that. Arguably, its most famous building is the cathedral, considered to be a masterpiece of French Gothic, and famously painted many times by impressionist Claude Monet.

Duck is the local dish of choice in these parts.

It's one of the oldest towns in all of Normandy and its well preserved medieval town centre is well worth looking out for.

It's an antiques centre. There are bric a brac markets on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Interesting town fact
In medieval times, Rouen was occupied by the English. The most famous thing they did during their rule was burning Joan of Arc here in 1431.
